Please note: Due to circumstances beyond our control, the venue for this meeting has been changed to The John Lewis Center on the South Campus of Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan. The GM site tours will no longer take place, all other aspects of the agenda remain unchanged. The venue is located within a short drive of the original location. The Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP) provides a forum for global automotive manufacturers, their large and small suppliers, the US EPA and other government entities from around the world to work together toward a shared vision of an automotive industry with positive environmental impact.


SP's quarterly membership meetings provide an opportunity for members to connect and share environmental sustainability best practices and strategies with industry peers, learn about emerging issues impacting the environment and their business operations, and identify new opportunities for collaborative action.


This quarterly meeting will include member and guest presentations on environmental best practices and emerging trends, and reports on outcomes of SP Work Groups / Projects. It will also include a presentation of SP's 2023 Awards.


Working meetings of SP's carbon neutrality, responsible battery, and ESG leadership work groups will also be held on the first day of the event, along with an optional networking dinner that evening.


Area Hotels: There are a number of hotel options within a short drive of the GM venue. A few of the closest options include: Courtyard Detroit Warren, HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS DETROIT-WARREN, and TownePlace Suites Detroit Warren.

    Kevin Butt is the Regional Environmental Sustainability director of Toyota’s North American Environmental Sustainability Programs. He is responsible for the development of Environmental Sustainability Programs and Regulatory/Legislative development for all of Toyota’s North American operations.

    Prior to Butt’s current assignment, he was the general manager/chief environmental and safety officer for Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing for all of Toyota’s Manufacturing operations. Prior to that assignment, Butt served as the assistant general manager of Body Production Engineering for Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc., (TMMNA). He was responsible for Body Engineering for all Toyota’s North American manufacturing operations. Body Engineering consists of Welding, Stamping, and Painting Operations.

    Butt serves on several boards including the National Wildlife Habitat Council, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation, World Wildlife Fund National Council, North American Great Plains Advisory Board and the Yellowstone Park Foundation Board.

    He has a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science from Georgetown College.

    Matt has held product management and leadership roles in a range of startup companies, with experiences that were both venture capital as well as blue-chip company backed. In total, Matt is a six-time veteran of cleantech startups focused on next-generation energy storage technology. His previous endeavors include Firefly Energy, a startup focused on advanced lead-acid batteries, EnerG2, a startup creating high purity carbons for batteries and ultra-capacitors, GE Energy Storage, a startup with high-temperature sodium nickel chloride batteries for utility-scale applications, Aquion Energy, a startup with the worlds only safe and sustainable aqueous hybrid ion battery for renewable integration, Watt-Learn, a startup creating artificial intelligence for grid-connected batteries, and Oriden, a startup centered around a renewable project developer with a 500 MW pipeline of solar and storage projects.

    Since 2004, his career in product management has focused on bridging the gap between the lab and the market, developing and selling new technologies into the rapidly evolving cleantech marketplace. With experience in half of a dozen distinct battery chemistries, software, renewable project development, applications from mobile to grid-scale, and well over 100 MWh deployed energy storage across the world, Matt has a track record of defining products and go-to-market strategies that work.

    Matt earned his BS in mechanical engineering from Bradley University and holds multiple patents in energy storage and advanced materials.

    Amy Smith has more than 20 years of experience in responsible forest products trade and is currently working on mitigating and reversing the impacts of natural rubber, wood and pulp and paper as drivers of deforestation and forest degradation. In her current role, Amy engages with companies committed to sourcing sustainable natural rubber, wood and paper fiber from important forest regions, including the Greater Mekong, Borneo, and Sumatra, the Congo Basin, and the Amazon. Prior to her current role with WWF, Amy was Director of PATS, a non-profit organization that supports indigenous communities in the Peruvian Amazon to produce and market sustainably-harvested wooden handicrafts. Before that, Amy held other positions at WWF in the US and in Peru, where she provided technical assistance for forest conservation projects, with an emphasis on responsible forestry, sustainable community development, and protected area management. Amy has an M.A. in international affairs with a concentration in environmental policy from Columbia University and a B.A. in Political Science from Boston College.

    Over his career, Clint has developed and managed projects up to 100 sites up to $200 million in investment for the clean water, biomass, solar, geothermal and agricultural sectors. He executed and delivered the full range of feasibility studies, business planning processes, feedstock sourcing and off-take contracts for each project.

    Clint earned a degree in environmental studies from the University of Alabama.
